Welcome to the Hansville Blog!

Welcome! This is my first attempt at "blogging" so I expect it to be a learning process.

This blog is intended to be a means to disseminate information, analysis, and commentary on the goings-on in Hansville, Washington - a nice little community in the north end of Kitsap County that has been experiencing growing pains and, more significant, some real problems with governance at both the County level and in the way that small special interest groups affect things at the local level.

My hope is that Hansville area residents will take the opportunity to gather information here, consider the commentary and analysis, and offer their own thoughts and analysis as to the issues affecting Hansville today. I am confident that Hansville will benefit from a vigorous debate on issues of current interest, and from a forum where true exchange of information and ideas takes place, even if people disagree on issues or are occasionally aggravated - or even offended - by someone else's viewpoint.

Thank you for providing this forum for discussion in Hansville. I hope to see thoughtful comments and insightful debate from members of my community representing a variety of viewpoints.

Here is a topic for discussion: If the Welcome to Greater Hansville sign was paid for with county money should it be allowed to post signs containing religious content (i.e. advertising vacation bible school)?

Mr. Wiegenstein - Maybe the question posted by "freedom from religion" regarding the Greater Hansville Sign being paid for with Kitsap County taxpayer money and posting religious content deserves a Blog Post of its own. I suppose this would be a conflict of church and state?
Actually a Blog Post asking for citizen thoughts and ideas about the "Welcome to Greater Hansville" Sign may provide a good forum for community conversation on the subject.

Yes, the whole sign issue - including the religious one currently in place - is yet another topic that would benefit from some discussion. I will try to post something soon. I do know that people have gathered some data on what the sign cost, who paid for it, who controls it, etc. It appears to be another example of a few people and the County deciding that they knew what Hansville and the other nearby neighborhoods/communities wanted, without bothering to actually consult those affected.

The Greater Hansville Sign was paid for by the County. The GHAAC controls the sign and allowed a religous group to erect a notice about a vacation bible school. What's wrong with this picture? One problem is that if you allow one religous group to post a notice, you must allow ALL religous groups. Apparently, when the GHAAC asked the County to pay for the sign, the County forgot to apply rules governing the use of the sign.

Mr. Bauer, currently the County Commissioner, drives by the sign every day on his way home. Why didn't he request the sign be removed? Where is the leadership? Why did it take a local resident to complain before the sign was taken down?

I thought it was great that they were able to put up that sign. My kids LOVE Vacation Bible School and people that volunteer to entertain my children in the summer need something given back to them. I guess if people dont want to attend that free event then they dont have to. :)
